Its 70 degrees here in Corralitos and this high pressure system that has been dominating the west coast is strengthening again. We have offshore winds and the sky is so clear you can see a hundred miles. Certainly the weather isn't anything to complain about, but then we have had do little rain and the Sierra snowpack is as thin as its ever been for this time of year. Roll back to 1978, Doug Olson and I packed up our bags and moved to Aspen, Colorado. This photo of Doug was taken in October 1978, snurfing in Mountain Boy Gulch. That was an epic season, it just started snowing and didn't stop, it was truly one of the best snow years.

Don't get me wrong, I love snowboarding, the access, the speed and control, unfortunately that is getting to be an expensive ride. If you live at a resort and have easy access to the slopes, cherish that and never give it up. If you don't live at a resort, you do whatever you can to have your time on the slopes and that is the challlenge and with $5 gas its going to get expensive to hit the slopes. So in the meantime we look for alternatives to the snowsporting life and Snurfing has always been a backup plan for me. All you need is a few inches of snow and a yard with a hill and of course your board. We made these tracks in front of the Strawberry lodge the day before heading up to the mountain..

We just got back last nite from Tahoe, two days at Sierra and one day Snurfing at Echo Summit. 710 miles of driving round trip. 14 high school seniors, 4 parents and only 3 stitches. The snow was terrific at Sierra at Tahoe, looking forward to our next trip. Hoping eventually we get some of the snow that the northwest and rockies are seeing, its still fun. get out there.
